Before You Leave

Please clean up any spaces you used during your stay!

Bedrooms
  • Remake the bed with clean linens
  • Wash the used linens, and store clean sets on the shelf
  • Vacuum the bedroom floor
Kitchen
  • Wash the dishes and put them away
  • Wipe down the stovetop and counters
  • Take your leftover food with you and wipe down the fridge interior
  • Sweep the floor
Bathrooms
  • Clean all bathrooms
  • Wash used towels and rugs, and store clean towels on the shelf
Garage
  • Wash the golf carts and make sure the tires have air
  • Leave the golf cart batteries charging
  • Refill the propane tank for the grill
All over
  • Empty the trash, putting bags into the covered outdoor bins. Trash is collected from the bins on Mondays, and between June 30th and Labor day, Fridays too.
  • Take your empty cans and bottles, MI has a 10¢ refund for each
  • Close all windows and doors
  • Turn off all lights, heaters, air conditioners, and fans
We hire a professional cleaning service every few weeks throughout the season, typically on Friday afternoons. Services include cleaning all floors, cleaning the three bathrooms, and occasionally dusting. Feel free to leave them a tip.

Closing Up For The Season

  • Put a bag of mouse poison in each room, like under a dresser. Mice will take over if you don’t do it. Buy a bucket of bags, cut bags in half, and tape.
  • Bring in the hammock
  • Take the flags down, and store them in the bin in the front porch
  • Bring outdoor table and chairs in
  • Bring in the white wood bench by the hose
  • Put the grill in the shed, allowing easy access for the hunters
  • Leave the white table by the grill out
  • Turn all lights off
  • Turn the heat off
  • There’s plastic for everything, just unfold it and make sure it best fits what you’re covering
  • Remove all garbage and returnable cans and bottles
  • There are glass storm windows in the upstairs of the shed. Put them in place of the screens on the lakeside windows of the living room
  • There is also a glass piece in the shed upstairs, put that in the garage side door
  • Stack bikes in the shed

Upstairs
  • Keep all bunkbeds made and wrap them in plastic, tucking it in all around the bed
  • Front porch beds get stripped and bagged  in black bags. 
  • Lay newspaper out on top of mattresses and put bagged bedding on top, tied top face down
  • Unplug all lamps and devices
  • Make sure windows are locked 
  • Close all blinds and curtains
  • Bring tissue boxes downstairs
  • Pick up rugs and bag them
  • Strip and bag the middle bed, pink ped, and both beds in Katy’s room. Put newspapers down.
  • Bag bedding in reverse so that the first thing that comes out of the bag is the mattress pad, then fitted and so on

Bathroom Upstairs
  • Bag all towels on shelves- one bag rests on the shelf and the other big one sits on the chair
  • Pick up rugs

Linen Closet
  • Everything gets bagged and put back on shelves
  • Check all bedroom closets for extra items
  • Bag extra blankets and such

Front Porch Downstairs
  • Keep beds made and wrap them in plastic
  • Bag and tie all chair cushions and pillows
  • Unplug everything
  • Lock all sliders

White Room
  • Find plastic that will fit the bed and just leave it folded on bed- the hunters will use the bed
  • Unplug everything
  • Check the closet
  • Bring tissue boxes out

Living Room
  • Plastic covers for sofa, two lazy boys and push two white wicker and cover as one
  • Keep plastic away from heater
  • Make sure lakeside windows are locked

Pink Bathroom
  • Pick up rugs and bag them
  • Put towels on top of rugs
  • Put a bag in the bathtub, and leave it untied for the hunters - Debbie will take care of it later

Busia’s Bedroom
  • Keep the bunk beds made, and cover them like the upstairs bunks, tucking in all around
  • Find plastic to fit two twins and leave them folded on made beds - Debbie will cover them after the hunters stay
  • Check shelves and bag all pillows and blankets
  • Put bags back on shelf
  • Unplug everything 
  • Make sure slider is locked

Kitchen
  • Clean out the lazy susan, disposing of all food in there
  • Check the pantry, keeping canned goods and discarding items that will not make it to next year
  • Empty the baskets on top of the fridge baskets
  • Wash out the fridge 
  • Some stuff can stay for hunters, otherwise discard or take home the leftovers
  • Check the potato bin!

Kitchen Bathroom
  • Put a chair from the dining room in bathroom and put bag on it filled with towels - Debbie will cover them after the hunters stay

Other
  • Clean out garage fridge - move anything that can go for hunters to the kitchen fridge
  • Turn off garage fridge and freezer, and wash them
  • Put a towel over the garage fridge door to prop it open
  • Remove air conditioners from all windows, and put them in closets
  • Keep the box fan in the dining room window and cover with plastic
  • Bring all beach items in 
  • Collect Kleenex boxes and bag them and put them on the dining table
  • Empty all garbage containers, including in the garage
  • Take all returnables home.
  • Plastic for futon and other sofa in garage. Lock all dining room windows and kitchen door.
  • All plastic and black bags are in a gray tub in the new garage upstairs.
  • You will need lots of newspaper!
